The coming months are going to be difficult and challenging for all of us, but especially for our children. Books and stories offer comfort and escape in unsettling times, whether read alone in a moment of peace and quiet, or shared with family or friends as a read-aloud activity.

If you would like to share a Scribble book via social media or other platforms, we are happy to extend this permission to all bookshops. These kinds of storytimes are a response to the extraordinary situation we find ourselves in. This permission is given on the understanding that full credit is given to the author, illustrator and publisher (Scribble), and that the video is only live for a week.

Story Box Library is an absolutely brilliant resource, filled with Australian picture story books read aloud by authors, comedians, and actors (sometimes in costumes!). It is always a bright spark in our lives, but especially right now. They are offering two months of free access to any schools forced to close due to COVID-19 that don’t already have a subscription, which also means that all the families of those schools would have free access to the full collection. If your school already has a subscription don’t forget that it includes at-home access for your kids, and that if your local public library has a subscription then families can also access Story Box Library this way.

Books Create Australia has announced that virtual storytimes recorded by libraries will be sanctioned by an industry agreement. The storytimes, live streamed or made available online, must not be non-downloadable to the public, and can exist for the duration of the pandemic.
